By: E&P Staff Following its integration into the Ouest France group, Le Courrier de l'Ouest, in Angers, has invested in a Wifag evolution 371 press.
Conducted over a short time, equipment evaluation by the Ouest France project team and Courrier de l'Ouest technical management was based on previous experience with seven evolution 371 add-on towers used in daily production at Ouest France in Rennes and Nantes. The new and existing presses are equipped with page pack inkers.
The new Wifag evolution 371 will enable the targeted increase in productivity and will print two-section broadsheets of 48 pages (half in four-color), at up to 90,000 copies per hour.
Designed for a 14x19.5-inch format, the press mainly comprises three four-high towers, one two-high tower and a mono-bridge, a KF 140 2:5:5 jaw folder and six M50 autopaster rollstands with automatic loading and unloading of paper rolls.
Overhung registers integrated in the autoturn turner-bar modules are controlled by automatic cut-off register controls, which function without special marks and dynamically correct the cut-off position of each ribbon throughout the printing process.
Operators' work is further eased by the automatic color register controls for the circumferential and sidelay registers, semi-automatic plate changers, and autotrack web-threading system.
From autumn 2007, Le Courrier de l'Ouest und Le Maine Libre, taken over from Socpresse Pol West, will be produced on the evolution 371 in Angers.
