Page Six in the City: 'NY Post' Launches Gossip Mag Today

Posted
By: E&P Staff The New York Post, already popular for its gossip news, especially its famed Page Six, went whole hog this morning, producing its first "Page Six: The Magazine," a 76-page slick publication inserted in the regular edition. The question, of course, is how many new readers it can inspire, since so many already buy the 25 cent tabloid for its gossip.

The debut issue includes, natch, an Oscars Preview and, of course, a photo of Angelina on the cover, but with this twist: it's Jolie as a teen. Then there's Heidi Klum on Fashion week in New York, and "Hilton vs. Hearsts: A Sexy Society Smackdown."

A column by Page Six guru Richard Johnson declares, "You are holding in your hands the culmination of 30 years of blood, sweat and tears--and plenty of threatened lawsuits." Page Six, indeed, was launched in 1976. "We're very proud of this latest step forward," he adds. The company has said this is a test issue and it will take it from here.

Johnson gets right into the spirit of the thing, naming his best scoops of 2005, including actress Sally Kirkland's claim that the first man to ever cop a feel from her was--Ted Koppel! It allegedly happened when she was 14 and he was 17.

The magazine carries four full pages of traditional Page Six items--which "porcelain-skinned actress" has had a recent facelift?--plus all the fresh features. Among other things, we learn that Paris Hilton got more mentions on Page Six last year, 123, than anyone else, followed by Lindsay Lohan, Donald Trump and Brad Pitt.

Photos abound, US magazine style. One photo of young Angelina shows her playing a guitar. Another, which shows her with already-puffy lips, "should put to rest" all those rumors about collagen enhancement.

Then there's a survey of which stars, male and female, have showed up at the Scores "gentleman's club." Dennis Rodman and Colin Farrell are included, of course, but what's Christina Aguilera doing there?

In something less than a shocker, Tim Robbins picks "Syriana" and "The Constant Gardener" as his Oscar faves. Then there's Kirsten Dunst in a bikini and a "Win a Page Six Night on the Town" contest.
