'Pajama Diaries' Offers Pre-Pregnancy Flashback

By: E&P Staff Beginning July 6 and continuing through Aug. 8, the comic strip "The Pajama Diaries," distributed by King Features, will tell the story of the protagonist's first pregnancy and the road to parenthood.

Creator Terri Libenson's strip centers around Jill Kaplan, a freelance graphic artist who struggles to balance work and family: husband Rob, and daughters Amy and Jess. Jill's struggle mirrors that of Libenson, also a married mother of two daughters, aged 9 and 6.

?With my own children growing quickly before my eyes, I have wanted to do a flashback series like this for a while," said Libenson in a statement. ?The strip?s diary-style format lends itself perfectly to creating a flashback series about the birth of Jill?s first daughter, Amy.?

The series begins with Jill looking through baby pictures with her husband, and saying, "It's been 10 years since I first got pregnant, can you believe it?" From there, the series will flashback to the day that Jill discovers she is pregnant and depicts the nervous preparation for Amy's arrival.

The series will end with Jill looking at her sleeping daughter -- now nine years old -- and asking Rob, "How did Amy grow up so fast?" to which her husband responds, "We blinked."
