Chicago's Tribune Co. named Denise Palmer president, publisher, and CEO of The Sun in Baltimore, effective Sept. 23.

Palmer will replace Mike Waller, who will become chairman of the newspaper and plans to retire in January.

Palmer has been president and CEO of Tribune's ChicagoLand Television since 2000. She previously served as vice president/development, strategy and finance at the Chicago Tribune. Palmer has worked for Tribune since 1980, when she joined the company as a corporate auditor.

Waller has been publisher of the Sun since 1997. Previously, he held a variety of positions, including publisher, at The Hartford (Conn.) Courant. Waller also served as managing editor and editor of The Kansas City Star and The Kansas City Times.

Replacing Palmer at ChicagoLand TV is David Underhill, who will continue in his current capacity as Tribune vice president/intergroup development.

Joining the intergroup development department is Barbara Weeks, as a director. Since 2000, she has served as vice president/operations of Tribune Interactive.

Brigid Kenney will assume Week's former role at Tribune Interactive, and will continue in her current capacity as Tribune Interactive's chief financial officer.
