By: E&P Staff Editors at the San Bernardino County (Calif.) Sun apologized twice -- once on the editorial page and once on Page One -- for quoting the neighbor of two murder victims as saying the two were drug dealers, the Sun reported Thursday.
After the Sun's original story ran on March 21, the paper determined through further reporting that authorities had no evidence that illegal activities were involved in the slayings.
The first correction appeared three days later, on March 24, offering "humblest and sincerest apologies" to the victims' families, admitting "we were wrong."
Family members picketed the Sun's offices Thursday morning, saying the apology wasn't enough.
After talking to family members, editors decided to run a second apology on Page One, the Sun reported.
