Parent of 'Arkansas Democrat-Gazette' Buys Missouri Dailies

By: E&P Staff The parent company of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has agreed to purchase the Jefferson City (Mo.) News Tribune from the Weldon family.

Terms of the transaction, brokered by Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, were not disclosed.

The sale also includes the daily Fulton (Mo.) Sun and the weekly California Democrat also in Missouri.

WEHCO Media, based in Little Rock, owns the Democrat-Gazette, the Chattanooga (Ten.) Times Free-Press, seven other dailies, and 13 cable TV stations.

The News Tribune has been in the Weldon family since 1927. Betty Weldon served as publisher of the Jefferson City paper until her death in 2007.
