By: E&P Staff Charles A. Peterson has been named editor of the weekly paper The Pataskala (Ohio) Standard, and its Web site, PataskalaStandard.com.

Peterson's appointment is part of a news restructuring at Gannett's Newspaper Network of Central Ohio (NNCO), which has promised to expand its online and reporting resources. In his new role, Peterson will edit and report on Pataskala news in addition to his work as editor of The Granville Sentinel, another NNCO weekly. Peterson replaces Joe Williams, who has left the company as part of the reorganization.

"Chuck is an experienced community journalist and editor who will continue the strong news reporting tradition of The Pataskala Standard," NNCO Executive Editor Michael Shearer told the Standard. "Our company remains as committed as ever to covering Pataskala and all of Licking County with the largest news staff in the county."

How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
