PATRIOT LEDGER UP FOR SALE

The Patriot Ledger of Quincy, Mass., is up for sale, the paper
reported Tuesday. Also on the selling block are The Enterprise of
Brockton, Mass., and the Memorial Press Group weekly newspapers
headquarted in Plymouth, Mass.



President and CEO James F. Plugh, who also serves as the Patriot
Ledger's publisher, said recent ill health led him to recommend the
sale to company shareholders.



Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette of New York will advise the company on
the sale.



New England's largest evening newspaper, the Patriot-Ledger has a
weekday circulation of 71,508, according to the 2000 E&P
International Year Book. The Enterprise has a circulation of
42,687. Memorial Press Group publishes nine weeklies, including Old
Colony Memorial.
