PAULINE'S PICK: DenverPost.com Examines Lawlessness On Indian Reservations

Posted
By: Pauline Millard The Denver Post has an ongoing, online project about the warped state of the justice system on Indian Reservations. It started in November 2007 and continues to be updated.

The crux of the piece is how law enforcement on Indian reservations is spread so thin that the FBI hands off a lot of serious crimes to the tribal court, which can generally only enforce a sentence of one year, at most.

The overview of the project is told through a five minute video, complete with footage of the bleakness of some reservations. The print stories, which make up the bulk of the project are also featured and get into more detail about how the laws came to be the way that they are.
