PAULINE'S PICK: SeattleTimes.com Gets in on Video

Posted
By: Pauline Millard I write a lot about video in this column, but that's only because it's growing on a lot of newspaper Web sites. I think it's also a great way to tell a story that has a lot of color to it.

The SeattleTimes.com recently started making videos. For a fairly large newspaper they don't have a lot of resources, just a pair of cameras and some editing software on laptops. Nevertheless, they've done some great pieces.

For a cute overload I highly recommend the segment about the bengal tigers at the zoo. They have also highlighted Seattle's maritime history by covering a local wooden boat festival.

As is the case at many newspaper sites, the videos are hard to find on the homepage. The Times has theirs buried way down at the bottom of the site, which is a shame because they're quite good.

Here are a few of my past Picks:

Boston.com Uses Slideshow to Show Possible Effects ofGlobal Warming

Petaluma Newspaper Lets Locals Blog

South Carolina Papers Uses Web For Updates On Fallout From Fire

NWHerald.com Focuses On Video For Local Coverage
