By: Pauline Millard The Colorado Rockies are in the World Series and TheDenverPost.com has
plenty to offer even the most rabid fan. Naturally, there are stories and photo galleries, but the editorial team, which also won a general excellance award last week at the Online News Assocaition conference, added lots of other features.
A great way to waste time while at your desk is to play
The Homerun Game. Games were
all the rage at ONA last week, and the Post has put together a simple batting game in which users try to knock a ball out of the park. I learned that just as in real life, I am a crummy hitter. Yet I keep going back and trying to improve.
Another cool feature is the
clickable map of Coors Field. When you click on certain areas you either get a mini baseball card of the player, or a quick quote and photo of a fan in the stands. You can also learn fun facts, such as that the balls are kept in a humidor at 21 degrees Celcius before they are used (to cut down on cheap home runs).
There is also a forum where readers can discuss the team, ask sports writer Troy E. Renck a question or evaluate box scores.
Overall, it's a great resource for fans and very easy to navigate around.
Go Rockies!
