By: Pauline Millard I can always count on the St. Petersburg Times to do interesting multimedia work. Today they gave me a heads up to one of their latest creations, a project that looks into the
death of a young man back in 1998.
10 years ago, a group of young people stopped on the side of Interstate 275 and a fight broke out in the pre-dawn hours. Nearly 20 people saw this spectacle unfold -- the fight, a standoff, and then someone was illuminated in the glare of oncoming traffic.
Out of nowhere an 18-wheeler roared onto the scene, and by the time it stopped the crowd had scattered, leaving behind the mangled body of 21-year-old Kevin McGinley.
The paper did a great job of getting videos of the police interviews with all the suspects as well as 911 tapes. There are also links to stories about the case. Some witnesses are dead, others have spotty memories and no one knows for certain if McGinley was pushed in front of the truck.
