PAULINE'S PICKS: VoteGopher Helps College Students Understand Candidates

Posted
By: Pauline Millard College students are quite the bright young things when it comes to technology. They invented Napster, Facebook and the appropriately named CollegeHumor.com.

Never has there been a generation that is so plugged in -- and so overwhelmed by information.

An election year increases the kind of knowledge a person has to have. Who are these candidates? Where do they stand on the issues? What are the issues anyway?

Naturally, a student at Harvard came up with a way to sort it all out. Sophomore Will Ruben created VoteGopher, a site that helps to explain the election by issues and candidates. It's fun to click through, and not just because of all the cartoon gophers. Ruben also adds links to blogs and print stories (and asks if they are helpful or not) as well as videos.

I don't want to say that the site is cute (even though it is!) but Ruben has made understanding politics enjoyable. The youth vote is a huge one, so hopefully his site will lead to more informed -- and more active -- young voters.
