By: Pauline Millard Iraq is clearly the biggest issue in the upcoming election, and voters have plenty to say about it.
The Washington Post recently put together
a series of videos by video journalist Travis Fox. He traveled to New Hampshire, Iowa and South Carolina to talk to people of all stripes about the war.
In New Hampshire, he examined how the largely democratic and socially conscious population were making decisions. In Iowa, he met the people of Guttenberg who are normally Republican and are proud to send children to the military after high college. Since one of their own young men was killed in Ramadi, many residents are reconsidering their GOP leanings, and young people are considering employment options outside of the military. In South Carolina we visit basic training with Fox.
Fox's approach with this project was well thought out. He visited the states and communities that are at the forefront of the primaries, and examined how their traditional choices have been affected in light of this war. His shots are wonderful and he does a great job encapsulating each group.
How is your paper creatively covering the 2008 election? I'd love to see it.
