By: E&P Staff Denver-based MediaNews Group has licensed the MediaPlus Circulation solution from Publishing Business Systems in Minneapolis, Minn.

Besides the circulation-management system, MediaNews Group licensed MediaPlus InsertPlus, which is designed to reduce the complexity of insert planning and delivery, and MediaPlus iServices Subscriber, a self-service application that performs online subscriber transactions.

"Because of how diverse our publications are, we need full-service solutions that work in both small and large markets, and also allow us to standardize reporting and our overall operations," Cindy Shearon, MediaNews Group newspaper systems analyst, said in a statement.

PBS calls MediaPlus Circulation a "revenue-generating system designed to standardize reporting and overall operations, as well as reduce expenses and streamline processes." It is available with Oracle (as at MediaNews) and Progress database compatibility,

MediaNews Group found that InsertPlus makes it easy to target inserts by demographics and location, "as well as manage customer information, generate reports and more," said MediaNews Group Newspaper Systems Director Riley Suit.

MediaNews Group also plans to install iServices Subscriber, a self-service application that allows subscribers to manage their own account information online, allowing customer service representatives to spend more time generating new business rather than processing routine requests.
