'Peanuts' Characters Once Took a Newspaper Tour in Iowa

Posted
By: E&P Staff Late "Peanuts" creator Charles Schulz was a stickler about always drawing his own characters in newspapers, but there may have been at least once instance in which he allowed someone else to do it.

HarryMcCracken.com posted a fascinating item about an eight-page promotional comic that ran in The Des Moines Register and Tribune in 1957. The lengthy feature shows Charlie Brown and Lucy falling out of a "Peanuts" strip into the arms of a man who proceeds to give them a tour of the Register office and printing plant.

The comic is signed by an artist named Bob Davenport, and includes a note saying characters from "Peanuts" were used with the permission of Schulz and United Feature Syndicate.
