Posted
By: (AP) Mariane Pearl, the widow of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, is writing her memoirs. Scribner expects to publish the book early next year.

"She will tell the fiercely dramatic story of the five-week search for her husband, and she will explain why people like Pearl persist in their commitment to gather information that helps us understand the world," Nan Graham, Scribner's editor-in-chief, said in a recent statement.

Financial terms for the book, currently untitled, were not disclosed.

Daniel Pearl, 38, was kidnapped in Pakistan on Jan. 23 while pursuing a story related to Islamic fundamentalism. A videotape confirmed Pearl's death.

Mariane Pearl is expecting the couple's child in May.

Scribner is an imprint of Simon & Schuster. Another Simon & Schuster imprint, the Free Press, is publishing a compilation of Pearl's articles. Mariane Pearl is writing the introduction.
