Pennsylvania Publisher Defends Impermeable Paywall: ‘If It’s Important to People, They Can Go Out and Pick Up a Newspaper’

The New York Times’ Jim Roberts explains why the paper poked a hole in its paywall during Hurricane Irene, saying “We are aware of our obligations to our audience and to the public at large.” But Bloomsburg Press-Enterprise Publisher Brandon Eyerly defends his paper’s intact paywall during historic flooding.

“If it’s important to people, they can go out and pick up a newspaper,” he said. “They can go to the library and get it for free, or they can go to their neighbor who has it.”
