By: E&P Staff The Wall Street Journal?s newsroom is welcoming back to the fold Jim Pensiero as vice president, news projects, effective Nov. 1. He will report to Managing Editor Marcus Brauchli.
In his new role, Pensiero will oversee a new technology platform to unify its print and online news staff and new initiatives like the Journal's upcoming glossy magazine.
In a memo to staff, Brauchli wrote that Pensiero is a "Journal stalwart and force behind much of the machinery and thinking that goes into the paper's daily production."
Pensiero is currently serving as vice president, special projects. He managed the Journal's 3.0 redesign.
He began his career at the Journal in 1984 as a copy editor, eventually working his way up to news editor in 1988. He was managing editor of Smart Money's inaugural edition and became the Journal's national copy chief in 1992. In 1994, he was named deputy national editor and in 1996 he was appointed assistant managing editor for news production, market data, and budgets. In 2002 he was promoted to vice president of news operations, a position he served until he went to the publisher's office in 2005.
Pensiero's wife, Karen, is an assistant managing editor at the paper.
