Pet Photo Contest at 'Mutts' Site

Posted Wednesday, August 23, 2006 12:00 am

By: E&P Staff MuttsComics.com -- the Web site affiliated with Patrick McDonnell's "Mutts" strip -- is holding its first pet photo contest.

The contest has categories for cutest pet, funniest pet, most photogenic pet, best-dressed pet, and most creative photo. Five additional winners will also be chosen at random.

An inspiration for the contest was the cover of the upcoming "Everyday Mutts: A Comic Strip Treasury" book from Andrews McMeel Publishing. The cover of that collection features a photo of McDonnell's real-life dog Earl superimposed over a "Mutts" Sunday strip.

Professional photographer Kim Levin, who took the shot of Earl, is a guest judge for the contest. Winners receive a signed copy of the book.

MuttsComics.com will feature a gallery of submitted photos after the Sept. 15, 2006, entry deadline.

The "Mutts" comic appears in nearly 600 newspapers via King Features Syndicate.

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
