PGA Extends Content to Mobile Phones

By: E&P Staff Publishing Group of America (PGA), the company behind the newspaper supplements American Profile and Relish, is directly extending its content to readers through mobile phones.

Through a partnership with DMD Mobile Holdings Inc., the new service offers readers pay-per-use subscriptions on a monthly basis for access to such content as recipes.

"Our readers are accustomed to paying for content packaged in retail formats," Steve Minucci, director of business development at PGA, said in a statement. "This is an added service that simply extends our value in everyday situations."

PGA didn't want to license its content to mobile carriers, nor did it want to give away its content for free on mobile devices. Said David Deutsch, CEO of DMD Mobile, in a statement: "This is a first -- a magazine company offering its own branded service directly to readers on a pay-per-use basis."

American Profile has a circulation of 9 million and since launching in February 2006 the monthly food supplement Relish has expanded its circulation 50% to 9 million.
