'Philadelphia Daily News' Targets Younger Demo With New Weekend Edition this Fall

Posted
By: E&P Staff One of Philadelphia's two daily newspapers has announced plans to launch a new weekend edition starting in October.

Publisher Brian Tierney says the Philadelphia Daily News weekend edition will be aimed at people who are not core readers of The Philadelphia Inquirer's Sunday edition but who enjoy the entertainment, sports, gossip and political coverage of the Daily News. Officials say it will especially target people in their 20s and 30s.

Tierney made the announcement at the Newspaper Advertising Association's mediaXchange conference in Orlando, Fla.

Daily News Editor Michael Days says it will have one longer-form article and many quick-read features, and it will be designed "so people can read it all week." Officials say it will be published Saturday but will be distinct from the current Daily News Saturday edition, which will continue.
