By: Staff Reports Phillip Dixon To Replace Butch Ward
The Philadelphia Inquirer has named Phillip Dixon, deputy managing editor, to managing editor of the Knight Ridder daily.
Dixon replaces Butch Ward, who has been managing editor of the Inquirer since 1996. Ward, who joined the Inquirer in 1982, said, "I decided it was time for a career change."
"PNI is offering buyouts," Ward said. Although he remains undecided what the next career will be, the buyout affords him the opportunity to look around the marketplace, he said.
Dixon will assume his new position in mid-July when Ward officially departs.
"It has been a great source of pride for me to work here," said Ward of his time at the Inquirer. Everyday I learned something from the people that work here, he said.
