With agreements in place with the last two remaining unions it needed to strike deals with, what will be known as Philadelphia Media Network has moved ever closer to finalizing the sale of The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News.

The prospective new owners of the Inquirer and Daily News have been working to reach new labor agreements with the newspapers' 16 unions, and those talks have thus far impeded the deal’s closing. The sale is scheduled to be finalized on Friday.

The Inquirer reports that over the weekend, the Philadelphia Media Network resolved contractual language issues with the company's mailers — and on Sunday, the papers' drivers, who twice before rejected contract offers, voted Sunday 148-15 to approve a new labor agreement.
