Philadelphia Inquirer and
Philadelphia Daily News Publisher Robert J. "Bob" Hall announced his retirement Thursday, according to a memo posted on
Romenesko.
In a memo to employees, Hall said he would retire by the end of the year for personal reasons. Knight Ridder plans to name a successor by early November.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my 30 years with Knight Ridder, especially the combined 25 years I worked at PNI, separated by the five years I spent in Detroit," he said.
Hall mentioned that he has spent 54 years in Philadelphia and plans to stay in the area. "I hope to do several different things with my time, such as teaching at a local university, serving on one or two boards of publicly held companies, staying active in the arts and cultural community, and most importantly, trying to get my golf handicap below 10."
