By: E&P Staff Eric L. Mayberry, a Philadelphia Newspapers Inc. (PNI) veteran who most recently served as advertising director of the Philadelphia Daily News, has been hired as publisher and managing director of the free commuter daily Metro Philadelphia, Metro International announced Tuesday.
Before becoming ad director at the Daily News, Mayberry was director of new business development for the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News, and publisher of My Wedding magazine.
"We have very ambitious goals for 2006 and we are confident that Eric and the Metro Philadelphia team are up to the challenge," Robert W. Powers, Jr. regional managing director of Metro North America, said in a prepared statement.
Prior to PNI, Mayberry served as vice president and group publisher at CynterPubs Information Resources in Gaithersburg, MD.
Metro publishes 59 daily editions in 86 cities in 19 countries in 18 languages across Europe, North and South America, and Asia. The company says its advertising sales have grown at a compound annual rate of close to 50% since the launch of the first edition in 1995.
