By: (AP) Anne Gordon, editor in charge of arts and features coverage at
The Philadelphia Inquirer, has been promoted to managing editor.
Gordon, 45, has worked for the
Inquirer since April 1999, when she started overseeing numerous daily and Sunday features sections. She most recently was the newspaper's deputy managing editor/arts and features.
Her appointment on Monday concluded a search that started when former Managing Editor Phillip Dixon stepped down in January. The managing editor is responsible for oversight of the newspaper's day-to-day newsroom operations.
Inquirer Editor Walker Lundy, who conducted a national search for a new managing editor, said he decided Gordon was the right person for the job. "I spoke to quite a few candidates from a diverse pool of editors from papers large and small," Lundy said.
Gordon, originally from Denver, started her journalism career in 1981 as a reporter for the
Rocky Mountain Business Journal in Denver.
She has worked at the
Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and
The Denver Post. She was editor of the Sunday magazine at
The (Cleveland)
Plain Dealer from September 1993 to February 1999.
Gordon also was communications director for the Colorado Democratic Party during Bill Clinton's presidential campaign in 1992.
