Philly Judge Criticizes Both Sides in 'Keep it Local' Publicity Battle

Posted
By: A judge in Philadelphia suggests that local investors hoping to win the city's two daily newspapers at an auction should pay for the ''Keep It Local!'' publicity campaign.

And he says members of a rival creditors group crying foul can take out their own ads to promote their bid.

Creditors complain the newspapers' current owners are corrupting the bid process with ads that demonize them. The ads suggest outside creditors would slash The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News if they take over.

Chief Judge Stephen Raslavich of U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Philadelphia criticized both sides at a hearing Wednesday.

He says the ads don't help achieve a fair auction in October. But he believes the complaints are overblown.
