By: Staff reports Newspaper Group Loses Request For Injunction
A federal appeals court judge denied yesterday a motion to temporarily
stop a month-old transit paper from being distributed in Philadelphia's
SEPTA transit system. It was the latest setback for a group of
newspapers that is challenging Metro.
The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News, The New York Times,
and USA Today publisher Gannett Co. Inc. argue that the free tabloid's
agreement with SEPTA unfairly gives the paper exclusive distribution
rights and gives a governmental agency control over the paper's editorial
content. A lawyer for the papers said they plan to pursue the case.
Metro is published by Sweden-based Modern Times Group, which publishes
transit papers in Europe and South America.
