Philly Union Readies 3,000 Strike Signs

By: E&P Staff The Newspaper Guild of Philadelphia, which says it is prepared to strike on Nov. 30 if a new contract with the managment of Philadelphia Media Holdings isn't reached, has already prepared 3,000 cardboard strike signs, according to an article published online by the alternative newspaper Philadelphia Weekly.

Talks between the Guild and the company that owns the Philadelphia Daily News and The Philadelphia Inquirer have proceeded "slowly" according to the a letter from the Guild, and the article quotes a guild spokesman as saying the newspapers' employees are ready to strike if necessary.

In addition to the signs, the Guild has reportedly developed plans to picket entrances to the newspapers' headquarters, as well as at their printing plants in the city's suburbs.
