Pictures of the Year Winners Announced Today

By: E&P Staff Winners of the prestigious 62nd annual Pictures of the Year International Competition sponsored by Missouri School of Journalism were announced today, with Michael Macor of the San Francisco Chronicle taking the Newspaper Photographer of the Year award. David Joles of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel was runner-up.

For best overall use of photography, The Palm Beach Post beat out much bigger papers in the over-100,000 circulation class, with The Albuquerque Tribune taking the under-100,000 crown.

The Angus McDougall Overall Excellence in Editing Award for Newspapers went to the Los Angeles Times. David Swanson captured the Multi-Media Story and Essay prize for his Iraq-based "Echoes of War" (which was covered extensively by E&P).
