Pitt Stops: Actor Quits Movie About Journalist

Posted
By: E&P Staff Brad Pitt has walked out of the American remake of the acclaimed BBC drama "State of Play," because of "concerns over the script," The Guardian reports in London. It also is to star Helen Mirren, Edward Norton and others.

He was to play a journalist whose investigation into a political researcher's death leads him to a conspiracy and back to an old friend.

Filming for Universal Pictures was to begin last week but Pitt supposedly departed, worried about the script -- the writers' strike means rewrites will be difficult or impossible. The studio may take legal action.

In a statement released yesterday, a Universal said: "We remain committed to this project and to the filmmakers, cast members, crew and others involved in making the movie."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp and Russell Crowe are being considered as a replacement for the star.
