By: E&P Staff Pittsburgh Post-Gazette President and co-publisher Diana Block said Tuesday she is stepping down from her day-to-day management role at her family's newspaper.
Diana Block's daily responsibilities will be assumed by Chris Chamberlin, who joined the paper last year as general manager and executive vice president. His title will be president.
John Robinson Block was named chairman and will continue in his role as the newspaper's editor-in-chief. He also serves as publisher of the Block Communications Inc. flagship, The Toledo Blade.
Diana Block started at the Post-Gazette as a reporter in 1998, and quickly climbed the management ladder. She told the newspaper's staff that "I'm looking forward to this opportunity to be involved with my children on a daily basis and to play a more active role in their development."
She noted in a prepared statement that "Chris Chamberlain has already begun to manage daily operations and he is well qualified to take this news organization into a new era that will be dominated by technology as we retain the high standards of journalism that has become a signature of the Post-Gazette brand."
Prior to joining the Post-Gazette, Chamberlain was vice president of operations for the Journal Register Company in New Haven, Conn., where he managed the chain's New England and New York newspaper and magazine properties. Before that, Chamberlin worked for six years at The New York Times in strategic planning and advertising management.
"I will greatly miss Diana's influence and leadership, but I am gratified to have the family's continued support of a newspaper that is steeped in the tradition of high-quality journalism," Chamberlain said in a statement.
