'Pittsburgh Post-Gazette' Will Deliver Rival 'Trib-Review' In Core Market

By: E&P Staff In the latest example of rival newspapers consolidating circulation operations, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette will deliver the rival Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in four counties surrounding the city, the papers announced Wednesday.

The P-G will deliver the Trib-Review in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler and Lawrence counties. The Tribune-Review's parent, Trib Total Media, will continue to deliver in Tarentum and McKeesport markets and in Westmoreland, Armstrong and Fayette counties.

A P-G statement suggested the distribution arrangement may be expanded. "Other similar synergistic possibilities regarding
delivery systems are being discussed between the two papers," the paper said.

Terms of the distribution agreement were not disclosed. The P-G is to begin delivering the Trib-Review no later than July 1, the papers said.

The P-G already delivers The Wall Street Journal in the core counties.

"Our service consistently beats industry benchmarks, and we're glad for the chance to expand and to deliver to more people," Diana Block, the P-G's co-publisher and general manager, said in a statement. "This is a commonsense and 'green' way for us to further strengthen and develop our distribution system throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. We'll be growing our business and helping to conserve fuel."

"The delivery arrangement makes good business sense for both companies," said Ralph Martin, president and CEO of Trib Total Media. "Our delivery drivers pass by the same houses on the same streets every day, and as gas prices rise and environmental concerns grow, this arrangement is the most prudent step to take. Customers will continue to get the same great delivery service that they have come to expect from us."
