By: E&P Staff Trib Total Media, publisher of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, announced Wednesday the acquisition of four weeklies and shopper serving southwestern Pennsylvania's Kiski Valley.
The Buttermilk Falls group of papers, with a household distribution of about 20,000, was sold by Vandergrift, Pa.-based Wysocki-Cole Enterprises Inc. of Vandergrift.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
"These products really help us sew up some holes in the regional market," Trib Total Media President and CEO Ralph Martin said in a statement.
Included in the sale are the Apollo News-Record; Leechburg Advance; Allegheny Township/Hyde Park Express; Vandergrift News; and the Buttermilk Falls shopper.
Martin said no major content changes are anticipated, but printing and production of the papers are expected to be moved from its current facility in Indiana, Pa., to one of Trib Total Media's plants.
The acquisition is the company's second in the past year, following the 2007 purchase of The Daily News of McKeesport from the Latrobe Printing and Publishing Co.
With the purchase, Trib Total Media said it now reaches 197,711 daily newspaper subscribers, 87,500 households through its magazine portfolio, and another 163,506 households with its weekly newspapers. Its Pennysaver portfolio reaches 801,254 households in the greater Pittsburgh market, according to the company.
