'Plain Dealer' Kills Off Sunday Magazine

Posted
By: E&P Staff The Plain Dealer of Cleveland is pulling the plug on its Sunday magazine.

The newspaper attributed the decision to rising expenses and a stagnating economy. The last edition of the magazine, which published its first issue on June 29, 1919, will be Dec. 18.

In a staff report on its Web site, Plain Dealer Editor Doug Clifton said, "The outstanding stories that regularly appeared in the magazine will run throughout the newspaper, from Page One to the Business section."

Clifton explained that glossy Sunday magazines have lost advertising support as opportunities for color printing opened in other sections of the paper.

The newspaper will continue to carry Parade Magazine on Sundays.
