In a report on the Obama administration’s spin machine, Steven Thomma of McClatchy Newspapers notes the White House employs more people directly involved in getting out the president’s message than the Bush or Clinton administrations. And while Obama meets with the Washington press corps fare less than his predecessors, he gives more interviews, with The New York Times a favorite outlet. Fully 20% of all the print interviews Obama granted last year went to the Times.
In his first 15 months in office, Thomma reports, Obama conducted formal news conferences or took questions from the press 83 times. In that same period in their administrations, Bush took question in formal or informal sessions 205 times, and Clinton 367 times.
