Pluto, Longtime Sportswriter, Finds New Orbit: Jumps from Akron to Cleveland

By: Longtime Akron Beacon Journal sports columnist Terry Pluto is jumping to the competing Plain Dealer, the newspapers reported Tuesday on their Web sites.

Pluto, who will leave the Akron paper at the end of August, will continue writing columns for The Plain Dealer, where he worked from 1979-84. He has been with the Beacon Journal for 22 years and became its sports columnist in 1993.

He cited The Plain Dealer's larger circulation as his primary reason for making the change. The Plain Dealer has an average weekday circulation of 344,704 and Sunday circulation of 442,482 _ about three times that of the Beacon Journal.

The author of numerous books, Pluto previously was the Cleveland Indians beat writer at The Plain Dealer and a Cavaliers beat writer at the Beacon Journal.

The Plain Dealer is owned by Advance Publications Inc. The Beacon Journal is owned by Sound Publishing Holdings Inc., a subsidiary of Canada's Black Press Ltd.
