Police Probe Follows Newspaper Reports on Defeated Congressman

Posted
By: New York State police have launched an internal probe after newspapers reported details of a 911 report involving defeated Congressman John Sweeney.

The state police report obtained by several newspapers claims Sweeney physically attacked his wife last December. John Sweeney and his wife have said the report provided to the media was inaccurate.

The newspaper reports may have contributed to Republican Sweeney's loss Tuesday to Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand.

Now state police say they are conducting an internal investigation into the public disclosure of documents about the state police's response to the 911 call.

Sweeney has failed to follow through on his promise to have police officially release the reports.
