By: E&P Staff Polish publisher Polskapresse is using ProtecMedia's Milenium to produce its new national daily, Polska The Times, which launched last month in cooperation with The Times of London and was created by fusing Polskapresse's six regional papers.
Based in Warsaw, the new paper has centralized production of national content and six regional editions. All editions are moving to the Milenium publishing platform, developed by Spain's ProtecMedia. The system will be used to coordinate content generation, design, and editing by more than 750 journalists.
The Milenium content management system handles page design and production, simultaneous editing, and integrated news and image wires. The multimedia archive is integrated with the newsroom system, which enables automatic pre-cataloguing of content and subsequent retrieval, according to ProtecMedia. Milenium tracks all editorial and advertising workflow operations to provide data for management reports.
Journalists working on different editions have on-site and remote access to a single database. ProtecMedia has developed a communications protocol for low-speed lines, making it possible for journalists to work via Internet and in WYSIWYG mode using low-bandwidth lines.
The only Polish newspaper to include daily supplements in full color, Polska The Times aims for sales of 700,000 to 800,000 copies daily, according to local press reports.
