Politics Mixes With Sports in 'America's Online' Column

Posted
By: Dave Astor "America's Line" -- the odds column that's mostly sport-oriented -- is now sporting additional political content.

In a column released Monday, there were presidential odds (Barack Obama 4/7, John McCain 5/4) as well as odds relating to whether or not Sarah Palin would remain McCain's running mate. She's a heavy favorite, at minus-$800 "no" and plus-$600 "yes," NOT to withdraw.

"In order to make a wager on the money line, you would put up $800 to win back $100 on 'no,' which is the heavy favorite," explained "America's Line" columnist Benjamin Eckstein. "Or you would put up $100 to win back $600 on 'yes,' which is a huge underdog."

Eckstein's column also offers odds on whether Obama or McCain will get more than 50% of the popular vote, whether Ralph Nader or Bob Barr will receive more presidential votes, and whether Al Franken or Norm Coleman will win the Minnesota race for U.S. Senate.

"America's Line" runs in about 125 newspapers via Universal Press Syndicate.
