Poll Finds Online Audience Big in Numbers, Small in Satisfaction

Posted
By: E&P Staff According to a newly released study conducted by Prophis eResearch, nearly 67 million online adults have watched streaming video or TV content via a Web site service. That is approximately 46% of the audience polled.

The study considered other online offerings that most adults use on a regular basis to view video content. E-mail, for instance, is used by 33%, or an estimated 48 million adults. They have viewed a file sent to their inbox within the past 12 months.

Though the amount of available video content on the Internet is enormous, the experience of viewing it has left many users less than satisfied. According to the survey, only 22% were completely satisfied with picture and sound quality of online video, while nearly one in five expressed dissatisfaction.

Upon dissecting the cause for the complaints, the study found that picture resolution and lack of picture size were the most irksome problems for users, with 43% citing the former, and 42% citing the latter as problems.

Other complaints included speed of transmission (32%), the quality of the video as it streamed (36%), and sound quality (21%).

In all, only 17% of those who viewed online video content were satisfied with the quality.
