Port Huron 'Times Herald' Former Co-owner Louise Weil Dies at 97

By: Former Times Herald co-owner Louise Weil has died. She was 97.

The newspaper in Port Huron says Weil died Sunday.

Weil and husband F. Granger Weil once owned the Times Herald, founded by his father. F. Granger Weil died in 2006. Gannett Co. has owned the paper since 1971.

Ex-Managing Editor Louis Dunn says Louise Weil "didn't interfere with the paper, but she had her point of view and expressed it often."

Weil helped raise money for Port Huron Hospital and helped organize the Port Huron Town Hall series, which began bringing national speakers to the city in 1955.

Survivors include children Mary Smith, Ann Durand and Frank Weil.

Her funeral is at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Huron.
