Posted
By: E&P Staff The Post and Courier daily in Charleston, S.C., and Evening Post Community Publishing Group on Tuesday formed a new company called Evening Post Publishing Newspaper Group.

Under the umbrella of the new company will be the three dailies that had been part of the community publishing group: the Post and Courier; the Salisbury (N.C.) Post; and The Eagle in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

Also in the new group are North Carolina weeklies that had been in separate publishing companies including The Clemmons Courier and the Davie County Enterprise. South Carolina weeklies included in the consolidation are the Moultrie News in Mount Pleasant; The News in Kingstree; The Times in Georgetown; The Berkeley Independent in Moncks Corner; The Goose Creek Gazette, The Summerville Journal Scene; and The North Augusta Star.

The consolidation is "aimed at assisting the company in streamlining its newspaper operating units and finding new revenue opportunities and expense efficiencies in this increasingly complex and competitive media environment," the company said in a front-page announcement in the Post and Courier.

Dan Herres was named president of the new group, and Cathy Wilkerson its vice president. Mickey Bella was named vice president of Shared Services, and Mike Albin vice president of Internet-Community Newspapers.
