By: Meg Campbell Powers Printing, Powers, Mich., has increased color capacity with the addition of a second Goss Community color tower to its press operations. The facility, owned by Ogden Newspapers, Wheeling, W.Va., prints some 35 publications, including Ogden's own Daily Press, Escanaba (9,254 circulation) and The Daily News, Iron Mountain (9,211 circulation), both in Michigan.
The Goss color unit was refurbished at Ogden's rebuilding facility in Williamsport, Pa. The tower was installed on the 10-unit Community press in mid-October and was taken into production four days later. With the new tower and the existing color tower, Powers can now print up to 10 pages of process color in a straight run, according to Plant Manager Jeff Schwaller.
The company plans to take advantage of the new unit by expanding its commercial work. The facility currently uses a single Goss Community SC folder, but hopes to install a second next February, Schwaller says.
