By: E&P Staff The Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla., has named Jacqui Banaszynski to the newly created position of editing fellow.
Banaszynski is an acclaimed journalist who is currently a Knight Chair in Editing professor at the University of Missouri's journalism school. She has worked as a newspaper reporter and editor for more than 30 years, most recently as an associate managing editor at the Seattle Times.
As a reporter at the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press, Banaszynski won a Pulitzer Prize in 1988 for her series: "AIDS in the Heartland."
In her new role, Banaszynski will teach seminars, develop editing-based courses for the Institute's Web site, News University, and help co-ordinate a larger editing project at the Institute.
