By: E&P Staff "Yipes!" This statement from Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed today pretty much sums up press anticipation of the release of former President Bill Clinton's autobiography "My Life" now scheduled for the end of June.
And no wonder. Today the book hit No. 1 on the amazon.com sales chart --and that's based strictly on pre-orders. It's also doing well at barnesandnoble.com, clocking in at No. 9. It lists for $35 but sells for $21 at the online book sellers.
"The autobiography former President Bill Clinton just laid on his publisher's desk is 900 pages long," Sneed commented. "It's called long-winded longhand."
Actually, amazon promises that it will run 992 pages.
"The writing was completed last week and right now we are finishing up the editing process," said a spokesman for the publisher, Alfred A. Knopf.
The book is already becoming fodder for sniping in the press and by the latenight comedians. David Letterman said this week, "You know, Bill Clinton -- how many of you remember Bill Clinton? He has a brand new book coming out in the next couple of months, and the Democrats are worried that the Clinton book might upstage the Kerry campaign. And I'm thinking, 'Hell, a day-old meatloaf might upstage that campaign.'"
