The Prial family has sold the weekly Chief-Leader in Manhattan, New York, to August Cooperative, LLC, according to John Cribb of Cribb, Cope & Potts, who represented the Prial family in the transaction. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Chief-Leader focuses on municipal government and civil servants, as well as issues affecting state and federal employees. It was founded in 1897, and has been owned by the Prial family since 1919.

Edward Prial, former publisher and co-owner said, “After over 100 years the Prial family is proud to hand over the reins of The Chief to Ben August. Under his leadership The Chief will continue as the voice of public employees for years to come.”

“It’s a privilege to be the next steward of this historical newspaper,” said August. “The existing team and I look forward to continuing its traditional content while extending its reach to new regions of the country. The Prials have made the transition smoother than I could’ve hoped for and John Cribb has been a pleasure to work with.”

Cribb, Cope & Potts is a leading merger and acquisition firm with offices in California, Montana and Arkansas.
