Pricey 'Calvin and Hobbes' Book Becomes Bestseller

By: E&P Staff "The Complete Calvin and Hobbes" made its debut in fourth place on The New York Times' hardcover miscellaneous list Sunday.

This is "surprising only because, at a list price of $150, it is one of the most expensive books ever to make the Times list," wrote Dwight Garner yesterday in a NYTimes.com article linked on ComicsReporter.com.

The Andrews McMeel Publishing anthology (E&P Online, Oct. 4) includes every "Calvin and Hobbes" comic Bill Watterson created for Universal Press Syndicate. The strip, which ran from 1985 to 1996, was appearing in more than 2,400 newspapers when Watterson ended it.
