By: E&P Staff Newspaper layoffs will be the subject of this Saturday's "Prickly City" comic by Scott Stantis.
In the strip, Carmen the conservative girl mentions to Winslow the liberal coyote pup that there has been "another round of layoffs in the newspaper biz." Winslow replies: "If the newspapers are in such bad shape, shouldn't they be firing the editors and publishers instead of newsroom folk? After all, they're the ones who rammed the ship into the iceberg."
Then, in the last panel, Winslow realizes he might be offending the very editors who decide whether or not to buy the "Prickly City" comic. "Oops, did I say that out loud?" he asks. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean it!!!"
In that last panel, Winslow and Carmen are shown behind a fake editor's note that reads: "Watch this space for the wacky and inoffensive antics of 'The Teletubbies' comic strip."
"Prickly City" is distributed by Universal Press Syndicate.
